Respect to protect

Mental health is an increasingly urgent priority across Europe. The ability to provide effective and humane support to those in difficulty is more important than ever, especially in sensitive areas such as public safety.
The “Respect to Protect” project was created to ensure that protection and security professionals – such as law enforcement and emergency responders – are trained to handle crises involving people with mental health conditions with competence, dignity, and respect.
The goal is to offer a new professional training programme aimed at raising awareness and improving intervention practices in critical situations. The project delivers an innovative training pathway that combines theoretical and practical content, delivered both online and in person.
Among the tools provided: a flexible and accessible e-learning platform, a handbook for VET trainers, and guidelines to support the replication of the training model at the European level. All materials have been tested through pilot experiences to ensure quality and effectiveness.
The project is co-funded by the European Union’s Erasmus+ programme under the KA220-VET action. The partnership consists of organisations with expertise in security, mental health, and vocational training, from various European countries.
